Football season has begun and like most newspapers we offer an entire special section, mostly for the High School athletes. The photos are heavy on portraits and can be challenging to get something different from each person with a single theme.
Humberto surprised everyone as it developed into a Hurricane overnight and swept inland between High Island and Sabine Pass, Texas. Me and Mike Smith were watching the news and following the path of the storm until the story escalated. Mike Smith jumped in his car and headed to Orange County to cover his beat at 1:30 in the morning. He got caught in the storms path and rode it out in his car in a Walmart parking lot. Bless his brave soul. I headed out at 6:00 that morning to get the remains. By that time the storm was over, the sun was out, and people were cleaning up or heading out to work. Wow, these Texans sure are unphased by anything.
